At the end of this past February, the Urban Assembly Gateway School for Technology (UAG) took a step into the future with its recent purchase of three MakerBot Sketch Large 3D printers. The new printers are set to bolster the school’s commitment to fostering innovation and providing students with hands-on experience in the rapidly evolving field of 3D printing technology.
According to the sketch print company website, “The MakerBot Sketch Sprint is a fast, user-friendly 3D printer, reaching print speeds of 300 mm/s and travel speeds of 600 mm/s”. These capabilities will enable students and faculty to explore a wide range of applications, from prototyping and product design to complex engineering projects and artistic endeavors.
Ms. Palumbo, a DDA teacher at UAG, expressed her enthusiasm about the new equipment and plans for use with the students. Ms. Palumbo requested a 3D Printer to be able to follow the design process from digital concept to a physical product.
Students at UAG are equally excited about the opportunities the new printers present. Mo Ba, a 12th grade in the DDA pathway, shared his thoughts: “Having access to such high-quality 3D printing technology is incredible. It opens up so many possibilities for our projects and prepares us for the demands of the industry.”
The school plans to integrate the new 3D printers into many projects across the various grades.
