Going on a college campus tour is more than just an excuse to skip a regular day of classes at UAG. It’s a great opportunity to plan your future. It might seem like you have all the time in the world and that life will move at your pace, but before you know it, it will be time to choose a college. My first time on a college trip was fun, but I regret not having asked more questions.
College tours are more valuable than most people realize. Websites can only share basic photographs and statistics. It’s not the best way to really know if a place is going to be a good fit for you. College visits can help narrow down your options, making things less overwhelming. You can then focus on what those schools want most and how you can work toward increasing your chances of getting in. According to the UAG college counselor Alex Rigney college tours are really important:
College tours allow you to imagine yourself on that campus. Keep in mind your experience goes beyond the campus, make sure you explore the surrounding area as well. Can you see yourself studying, socializing or possibly living there? Are you comfortable? Can you see yourself participating in the community? Is this the atmosphere you are looking for? Will they be supportive of my needs? Make the most of college tours but the most important thing is to remember that only you can decide the right place for you. Make sure to take advantage of your knowledgeable guide. Ask them about their experience.
Don’t feel overwhelmed. You are building your knowledge and figuring out what might be a good fit for you. You can make appointments to visit other colleges that interest you, take your parents, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Additional question you can ask:
- How Accessible are Faculty and Staff?
- How Is the Food on Campus?
- What are the dorms like?
- What kind of programs are here for the majors? (internships, summer work, etc.)
- What is the average class size?
- What is the graduation rate?
- What Support Services are Available?
- What are ways I can contact my instructor?
- What sets this college apart from other colleges?
